The Social Security Observatory of Latin America and the Caribbean (OSS) is a platform created to support research and policymaking in the field of social security in Latin America and the Caribbean. The OSS contains data from the Longitudinal Social Protection Survey (LSPS), a project that is being developed in different phases by six countries.

This project is led by the Labor Markets and Social Security Division of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS).

Brazil

Brazil joined the project in 2013 and is in the process of estimating the cost of the survey and financing possibilities.

Colombia

Based on the baseline, between April 15 and July 31 Colombia executed the second round of the survey. There were 3 regions participating: Bogotá, Central and Atlántica

Se han realizado ya seis levantamientos de la Encuesta de Protección Social (EPS), en los años 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2012 y 2016.

El Salvador

LSPS in El Salvador was developed between March and December 2013. It consisted on 18,000 house surveys, that represented all the country, urban and rural areas. The information provided by the LSPS is being used to know the Pension System more in depth.

First round completed



Paraguay

LSPS Paraguay 2015 was publically launched in March 31, 2016. Around 15,000 surveys were completed in all the regions of the country, except Boquerón and Alto Paraguay. Database is now available for downloading

Uruguay

Uruguay has already presented the results of the first round, gathered in 2013. The country is currently developing the second round.

This material provides detailed information about aspects that have been evaluated in the participant countries. With questions that explore diverse topics such as education, health, home ownership, household type, pension knowledge, careers and labor markets, among others, questionnaires in English are an important source of information to continue positioning at regional and international level the work that have been done so far in the framework of LSPS project in Latin America.
